Things Dexter Likes: like, not the improper usage of, like, like

Dexter recently came across this online posting while combing the web for details pertaining to Sloane Peterson’s wardrobe. Dexter especially likes the advice listed under the heading of “Say Eloquent Shit”:

Also: we’ll be bottling the 2010 Dexter Lake soon! Soon as in (not like) around a fortnight. Strap in!

OH MY GOD! The 2010 Dexter Lake blend tastes SO GOOD!

Sorry for all the shouting, but it’s hard not to when you’re this excited about getting some wine into bottle, under cork, and into y’all’s hands.

Seriously.

The 2010 will be a different beast altogether — fans of the Dexter Lake know that this is what the mustache is all about. Rorick told me to keep mum on the blend composition until after we’d released it, but I think it’ll be all right if I just say a couple of words like (Mourvedre) and (Petit Verdot) and (Gamay). And that ain’t all! But SHHHHHH! Don’t let Rorick find out I told you. He’s such a stick-in-the-mud about this stuff. He’s got our bottling run lined up for some time in April. I seriously can’t wait.

What are YOU thinking about?

We’re thinking about the 2010 Dexter Lake blend. Rorick just walked into a door and knocked himself out, but when he wakes up I’ll put him to work. What’s going into the new vintage? Touriga? Petite Sirah? Cabernet? Alvarelhao? Petit Verdot? Mourvedre? Gamay noir? All of the above? Stay tuned!

Who doesn’t like to look at art? Or, the oracle says 2012 will bring you great Dexter Lake wines

I’m always happy to flex my art-interpretation muscles; some of you may not know that at one time I was a regular judge at the Lichtenstein Castle Fine Art Long-Jump and Overland Motor Rally. I recently came across this picture at an auction in Buenos Aires that bodes well for fans of the Dexter Lake:

I'd recognize that mustache anywhere!

What I see here, my friends, is a great indication that 2012 will bring you delicious wine. From a field of blue and green — two generative, fertile colors — a single figure reaches toward an oscillating, mysterious floating shape. I can tell you that I speak from my wealth of art interpretation experience when I say that this shape, clearly, is the visual embodiment of the deliciousness of Dexter Lake wine. The biggest clue to this fact? Notice the bold, provocative mustache adorning our central figure! Mon dieu, that is a thing of beauty! It clearly indicates that this painting is about Dexter Lake wine, and that this new year will bring you Dexter Deliciousness. Well, I suppose you could point to the script which reads “Dexter Lake” and claim the same thing, but that would be taking the easy way out. And with wines that include the best fruit California grows, Dexter NEVER takes the easy way out!

Hits from the Archive!

So, after tracking Rorick and the unstoppable Provo down at a Fabulous Ladies of Fitness show in Chicago and witnessing their indescribable dance moves, I thought that there must be a deeper connection between those two and Hall & Oates. I dug through my rock and roll archives and discovered this Zelig-like photo from a bar in NYC in the early 80s:

And I didn’t even need no private eyes to dig up the truth! Wish I could have gotten them all together on stage at my old club, but I understand that Daryl never liked them as a trio. What could have been…

All right, you found me!

Yeah, I was hiding in the Camargue, visiting ma belle cousine Dextra du Lac. I would have stayed on indefinitely, had not Hazel warned me that our man Rorick is just wrapping up his winemaking work on the 2011 Dexter Lake wines and will be heading to Chicago next week. Knowing how much of a babe-in-the-woods he is, I’m headed there myself to make sure he doesn’t have too much Glögg with Provo. Stay tuned — and pray for snow!

Things Dexter Likes: Wine country needs some spice…

…and here it is. I’ve been hanging out in northern California watching our man Rorick freak out about rain, vineyards, fruit, and whatever else it is that these prima donnas that call themselves “winemakers” fret about. Why fret, I say, when you’ve got great wine (ahem!), MUSTACHES,

Megan rocking oh so steady. Dexter Likes!

More reason to be In Fine Spirits

Great news from Dexter Lake World Headquarters: I’ve been trying to get that lazy and near-worthless winemaker of ours, old Rorick, to quit spending all his time in the vineyards (yeah, I know it’s harvest, but really…) and do a bit of work on our 2010 wines. After weeks of cajoling, pleading, and outright threats, I finally sat down with him and put together a couple of first-pass blends. One of which — a blend which I, Dexter Lake, thought up — was so good, we decided that it shouldn’t have to wait until next spring to release.

So, we’ve teamed up with our good friends at In Fine Spirits in Chicago to release this limited bottling in the fall. I’ll have more details here soon, but just to give you a little teaser, it’s got Charbono, Mourvedre, and Gamay noir in it. Damn, it’s good!

Stay tuned.

Much love,

Dexter

Soundtrack to Summer

I’ve been kicking around the idea of a white wine this month. I love me some red, to be sure, but it sure would be nice to have something cool and crisp and refreshing to get us through the dog days of summer. What do you all think? Should Mr. Dexter Lake crack the whip on old Rorick and have him work on a bottle of white wine that would be the equal of our mustachioed red?

While I’ve been pondering this, I’ve been enjoying the musical stylings of Mr. Noah Wall. His efforts definitely fall into the category of Things Dexter Likes. Check it out, with video accompaniment:

http://jukeboxer.net/mindgames/

and here’s Noah’s website, where you can get info on when his new album Hèloïse drops as well as free MP3 downloads.

And finally, I’ll leave you with this blurry reconnaissance photo taken of a figure believed to be Provo. If you see him, remind him not to feel so down, and that a glass of Dexter Lake always goes well with his shepherd’s pie.

Archie-vedarchi!

Supair coule.

Handlebars and vino for all

Good things are happening. These latest are from the Wine Riot in CHI; apologies for the delay in posting them but I was glider-riding the Morning Glory roll cloud in Australia.

Now, on to folks basking in the glory of Dexter Lake wine and HANDLEBARS!

I like it when ladies give me the finger:

Meanwhile, these beautifully be-stached paragons of upper lip adornment make me all warm and fuzzy inside… and outside, too

Good things come to those who mustache. I’ll leave you with a shot of yours truly, in action. And they say I don’t work!
